Thyristor Power Controller

CD Automation Jumo PMA Advanced Energy Industries

Thyristor power regulators are used in all industries where large active and inductive loads must be controlled, e.g. industrial furnaces, plastics processing, transport. The thyristor power controller consists of two power thyristors switched in parallel, an insulated heat sink and control electronics. The microprocessor control is completely galvanically separated from the power circuitry. The regulators contain a current limiter and special algorithms for silicon, carbide and supercantal heating elements. The controllers have up to five different control inputs of the customer's choice, outputs for notification and signal retransmission, and power, current or load voltage feedback. An integrated electronic current limiter monitors overloads. CD Automation was one of the first companies to develop microprocessor-controlled thyristor regulators. The controllers have a RS485 serial interface, which enables communication with different fieldbuses.

Classification of the basic series of thyristor regulators

Relay S series (previous series CD3000S)
is in the economy class and does not have a bus interface. The new Relay S series thyristor power controller is an upgraded version of the CD3000S and has functional and service differences. In particular, the Heater Break Alarm option, as well as the BF(4-8-16) batch switching can be installed on all models up to a maximum current of 700A.
The lower limit of the max. current range in the new series has been raised to 30A. Up to 210A, the upgraded REVO modules are used. The power thyristors are commutated when the voltage passes through zero. Suitable for single-phase or three-phase resistive loads. They are controlled by an electrical on/off logic signal or an analogue signal.
Relay M series (previous series CD3000M)
is a mid-range power controller with an optimum price/performance ratio. The new Relay M series is an upgraded version of the CD3000M and has functional and service differences. In particular, the new series offers a higher maximum voltage of 690V in models with a maximum current of 400...700A. The lower limit of the max. current range has been raised to 30A. Up to 210A, the upgraded REVO modules are used and all models are equipped with a display.
In the new series, packet and phase switching are complemented by programmable soft-start. In addition, it is possible to select voltage or power feedback in the load. All regulators in this series are microprocessor controlled and have an RS485 interface with MODBUS protocol. They can be used for single-phase or three-phase loads. There is a choice of five ways (different inputs) to control power to the load in combination with different methods of switching power thyristors. Thyristor Power Controller CD Automation
Relay CL series (previous series CD3200)
is the best solution for power control in single-phase loads with currents up to 700A, has an RS485 interface with MODBUS protocol and is particularly suitable for transformer or mixed loads. The new Relay CL series is an upgraded version of the CD3200 and has functional and service differences.
In particular, the new Relay CL series offers an increased maximum voltage of 690V in models with a maximum current of 400...700A. The lower limit of the maximum current range has been raised to 30A. Up to 210A, the upgraded REVO modules are used, and all models are equipped with a display. In the new series, in addition to phase switching, batch switching is offered for the first time, thus achieving versatility for the user.
REVO series (part of the Relay series)
is a new thyristor power controller version with load currents from 30A to 210A and is included in the corresponding Relay series. The modules have an integrated current transformer and fuse holder with quick access via the front panel, which significantly reduces time wasted checking and replacing blown fuses. A compact combination of power controller and integrated temperature PID controller is available.
PM3000E series (previous series CD3000E)
is used for three-phase loads only, belongs to the advanced power controller class and has the largest number of options and variety of user features in its class. The new Relay E series is an upgraded version of the CD3000E and features functional, parametric and service differences. In particular, the lower limit of the maximum current ratings has been raised to 30A. In the up to 210A segment, upgraded REVO modules are used, all models are equipped with a display and a front socket for controller configuration.
In the new series, the standard packet switching is complemented by a delayed current packet switching, allowing this thyristor power controller to be used with inductive loads in two-channel power control and providing the most economical solution. In addition, it is possible to select the feedback of all possible parameters in the load. There is a choice of five ways (different inputs) to control power to the load in combination with different thyristor switching methods. All regulators in this series have fully digital control based on a powerful high-performance microprocessor and have RS485 interface with MODBUS protocol. They are mainly used for high-power three-phase transformers with currents up to 700A, whose secondary winding is connected to a resistive load with a high dependence of temperature parameters on service life and ageing, often unbalanced.
POWERSTACK series (previous series MULTIDRIVE)
belongs to the most advanced class in the high-current segment, up to 2700A and has the largest number of options in its class and a variety of user options, a true "All inclusive" and has the largest number of service functions, logic inputs and relay outputs. The new POWERSTACK power controller series is an upgraded version of the MULTIDRIVE and features functional, parametric and service differences. In particular, the lower limit of the max. current range for single-phase models has been raised to 850A.
The POWERSTACK series, in contrast to MULTIDRIVE, offers an increased maximum voltage of 690V in the entire range of regulators for all loads. All models are equipped with a display and a front connector for controller configuration. The series contains all possible options as standard. Including current limiter, load diagnostic system, serial interface. The software is supplied free of charge and is animated and allows the controller settings and configuration to be changed even in "hot" mode, without removing voltage from the load. In addition, there are two active load power inputs switchable by the operator via a logic signal.
